We are a husband and wife team based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. Our affinity for saltwater aquariums first started in the early 2000s. As our knowledge on these intricate ecosystems grew, we were eager for a better, more humane way of keeping our prized fish healthy and happy. There were several resources available from other responsible fish keepers, but I felt like there was still more to be done- that we could greatly add to their quality of life by further combating the risk of illness and disease they faced. It was one negative experience in particular involving both marine ich and marine velvet, that prompted me to seriously pursue research on more efficient and successful methods on minimizing sickness and stressors in our tanks. Our aquariums are a great passion of ours, and our ultimate goal was to help our fish live not just longer lives, but happier ones as well. After years of research and hands on experience, we have divised our own medicated quarantine protocol that we've implement edwith all of our fish. We have seen over 15 years of success with this system, and we are excited to now be sharing that success with our customers.
Calypso's Marine Oasis began with a vision of making our aquariums happier and healthier. Early in our fish keeping journey, we had an outbreak of cryptocaryon irritans (commonly referred to as marine ich) , along with an outbreak of amyloodinium ocellatum (commonly referred to as marine velvet). This layed the foundation for what now has become Calypso's Marine Oasis
Our standard Full quarantine process is a total of 30 days, 15 of which are medicated using only pharmaceutical grade medications. Standard Quarantine consists of treating ich and velvet at 2.5 parts per million chelated copper levels or . We also treat with metronidazole and kanamyacin sulfate and praziquantel both topically and in medicated food. use a 2 bath approach when receiving fish consisting of a formalin bath followed by either a methylene blue or nitrofurazone bath.
You may have noticed the dog in our logo. That is Calypso. Calypso is a 6 year old Belgian Malinios that came to us with some pretty severe behavioral issues. Much like our beloved fish she took time to get used to our home and patience. With love and patience she became one of the top dock diving dogs in the country as well as an explosives detection k9. She now helps us with all of our aquarium maintenance.
